Approximating Social Ties Based on Call Logs: Whom Should We Prioritize?
نویسندگان
چکیده
Telecommunication service providers could analyze the call logs of individual users to provide personalized services like recommending Friends and Family (FnF) numbers, that could be registered for having lower tariff during communication. However, suggesting such numbers is not simple as the decision making process can often be misled by factors like overall talk-time or call frequency. This paper proposes a technique to assist mobile phone users for effectively identifying FnF numbers using the underlying social network of a call graph. It resembles to a star network, having the user at the center, where each of the edges are weighted using three call log attributes: call duration, call location and call period. The weighted call graph is then used to calculate user’s social closeness based on which FnF numbers are suggested. The experiment was conducted on a set of real life data and it is seen that the proposed technique can effectively suggest FnF numbers with an Fmeasure value of 0.67.

Do Internet Users Have More Social Ties? A Call for Differentiated Analyses of Internet Use
Research on the impact of Internet use on social ties has generated conflicting results. Based on data from the 2000 General Social Survey, this study finds that different types of Internet usage are differentially related to social connectivity. While nonsocial users of the Internet do not differ significantly from nonusers in network size, social users of the Internet have more social ties th...
متن کاملWeather Effects on Mobile Social Interaction : A case study of mobile phone users in Lisbon , Portugal
The effect of weather on social interaction has been explored through the analysis of a large mobile phone use dataset. Time spent on phone calls, numbers of connected social ties, and tie strength were used as proxies for social interaction; while weather conditions were characterized in terms of temperature, relative humidity, air pressure, and wind speed. Our results are based on the analysi...

متن کاملSocial Media Broadcasts and the Maintenance of Diverse Networks
Social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn let people broadcast messages to their entire network of contacts all at once. As the number of users and the amount of information they broadcast grow, platform managers face an increasingly pressing problem – which broadcasts should they show their users? To address this question, I study the database of a social media company that s...
متن کاملCollection and analysis of multi-dimensional network data for opportunistic networking research
Opportunistic networks use human mobility and consequent wireless contacts between mobile devices to disseminate data in a peer-to-peer manner. Designing appropriate algorithms and protocols for such networks is challenging as it requires understanding patterns of (1) mobility (who meets whom), (2) social relations (who knows whom) and (3), communication (who communicates with whom). To date, a...
